In centinaia sono accorsi, questa mattina, alla Giornata mondiale per il Darfur organizzata da Italians for Darfur, organizzazione promotrice della campagna per il Sudan, al Colosseo. Lo riporta la stessa organizzazione in un comunicato. Un cerchio umano con decine e decine di tamburi, sotto la guida di Lorenzo Rompato, ha animato l'iniziativa giunta alla quarta edizione e che nel 2010 è stata anticipata da altri eventi organizzati nell'ambito di Sudan365, campagna promossa da una coalizione di organizzazioni e associazioni, tra cui 'Italians for Darfur', impegnate nella difesa e nella promozione dei diritti umani. Dal Mali alla Norvegia, dal Sud Africa a Israele, dal Senegal all'Italia, gli attivisti di 'A Beat for peace' - sostenuti da famosi percussionisti come Stewart Copeland dei Police, Phil Selway dei Radiohead, il Mustafa Tettey Addey del Ghana, la pop star medio orientale Mohamed Munir e Tony Esposito per l'Italia, che il 28 aprile a Roma ha tenuto un concerto a sostegno della campagna - hanno manifestato per tenere alta l'attenzione sul Sudan. "Attraverso la nostra azione - ha dichiarato il presidente di Italians for Darfur, Antonella Napoli dopo aver letto i messaggi del Capo di Stato, Giorgio Napolitano, e dei presidenti di Senato e Camera, Renato Schifani e Gianfranco Fini - chiediamo ai leader mondiali di non assumere il solito atteggiamento da ignavi nei confronti del regime di Bashir dopo la sua riconferma a presidente del Sudan. Il contesto sudanese è estremamente instabile, come dimostra la recente offensiva nella regione del Jebel Marra in Darfur, costata la vita a centinaia di civili, e l'aumentata violenza interetnica nel Sud Sudan". "Una nuova guerra civile in Sudan può essere evitata - sostiene la Napoli - se la comunità internazionale aumenterà rapidamente la pressione sui partiti che stanno facendo marcia indietro rispetto a delle posizioni definite cruciali per raggiungere un accordo di pace duraturo in Sudan".
