الولايات المتحدة تدعو قوات الامم المتحدة الى مزيد من "الحزم" في حماية المدنيين
دعت الولايات المتحدة الاربعاء قوات حفظ السلام في السودان الى مزيد "من الحزم" في الدفاع عن المدنيين، حتى لو ان ذلك ينطوي على مخاطر على قوات الامم المتحدة.
وقالت السفيرة الاميركية في الامم المتحدة سوزان رايس "ننتظر من قوة الامم المتحدة والاتحاد الافريقي للسلام، احدى اكبر عمليات الامم المتحدة واكثرها تكلفة، ان تكون انشط، وعند الضرورة اكثر حزما في تأدية مهمتها لحماية المدنيين".
واجرى مجلس الامن الدولي مشاورات حول السودان الاربعاء على خلفية الهواجس المتزايدة من المواجهات بين القوات الحكومية والمتمردين في دارفور.
واكد المتمردون انهم اسقطوا مروحية قتالية خلال مواجهة هذا الاسبوع، اسفرت عن مقتل عشرات الاشخاص. وفر اكثر من 43 الف شخص من منازلهم منذ كانون الاول/ديسمبر، كما ذكر مسؤولون في الامم المتحدة.
ويقول دبلوماسيون ومجموعات تدافع عن حقوق الانسان ان الحكومة السودانية اغتنمت فرصة اجراء الاستفتاء التاريخي في جنوب السودان لشن هجومات جديدة ضد متمردي دارفور الذين يخوضون حربا ضد حكومة الخرطوم منذ 2003.

Usa chiede più truppe delle Nazioni Unite per i "pacchetti" per proteggere i civili
Mercoledì, gli Stati Uniti hanno chiesto che le forze di pace in Sudan di più "fermezza" nella difesa dei civili, anche se ciò comporta un rischio per le forze delle Nazioni Unite.
L'US ambasciatore alle Nazioni Unite, Susan Rice, "Ci aspettiamo che la forza delle Nazioni Unite e dell'Unione africana per la Pace, una delle più grandi operazioni delle Nazioni Unite, e la più costosa, per essere più attivi e, se necessario, più aggressivo nello svolgimento del suo mandato per proteggere i civili".
Il Consiglio di Sicurezza dell'Onu ha tenuto consultazioni sul Sudan su sfondo Mercoledì crescenti preoccupazioni degli scontri tra forze governative e ribelli nel Darfur.
I ribelli hanno detto che hanno abbattuto un elicottero da combattimento durante uno scontro di questa settimana, uccidendo decine di persone. Fornito più di 43 mila persone dalle loro case da dicembre, anche detto che i funzionari alle Nazioni Unite.
Diplomatici e gruppi di avvocato per i diritti umani ha detto che il governo sudanese ha colto l'occasione per tenere il referendum storico in Sud Sudan per lanciare nuovi attacchi contro i ribelli del Darfur che sono stati in guerra contro il governo di Khartoum dal 2003.


U.S. calls for UN troops to the more "packages" to protect civilians
Wednesday, the United States has called for peacekeeping forces in Sudan to more "firmness" in the defense of civilians, even if that involves a risk to the forces of the United Nations.
The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, "We expect the strength of the United Nations and African Union for Peace, one of the largest UN operations, and the most expensive, to be more active and, when necessary, more aggressive in carrying out its mandate to protect civilians."
The UN Security Council held consultations on Sudan on Wednesday background growing concerns of clashes between government forces and rebels in Darfur.
