Khartoum, 16 apr. (Ap) - Il presidente uscente Omar al Bashir è in testa secondo i primi risultati delle elezioni in Sudan: la commissione elettorale ha annunciato che nei pochi distretti dove il voto è stato scrutinato Bashir ha ottenuto fra l'88% e il 94% di suffragi. I risultati finali sono attesi per martedì. Per le presidenziali Omar al Bashir è il grande favorito dal momento che i suoi due principali avversari, Yasser Arman, un musulmano laico del Movimento Popolare per la liberazione del Sudan (Splm) e Sadek al Mahdi, ex Primo ministro e leader del partito Umma (nazionalista), hanno ritirato le loro candidature e accusato il capo dello Stato uscente di aver truccato la preparazione dello scrutinio. Oltre che per le elezioni presidenziali, nei giorni scorsi i sudanesi hanno votato, nelle prime elezioni multipartitiche in 24 anni, anche per le legislative e le regionali. Il voto è stato caratterizzato dal boicottaggio da parte di alcune formazioni politiche e da problemi di carattere logistico e tecnico. -->

KHARTOUM, Sudan — The chief of the European Union's vote monitoring team says Sudan's elections failed to meet international standards.
Veronique de Keyser says names were missing from voter registries, election resources were not evenly spread to all parts of the country and there were cases of voter intimidation.
The five days of voting last week were the first multiparty presidential, parliamentary and local elections in 24 years.
They were a requirement of a 2005 peace deal that ended a 21-year civil war between the Sudan's predominantly Arab and Muslim north and rebels in the Christian-animist south. The war left 2 million people dead.
De Keyser said Saturday the elections paved the way for democracy but shortcomings must be addressed.
